MARS (Military Advanced Regulator System)




History


In 2004, Patagonia commenced work for a SOF customer on an environmental clothing system which was comprised of modifications to what was already in their commercial line. Leveraging their Regulator line of inner layers, this project was dubbed the Military Advanced Regulator System or MARS. Some garments remained the same as their commercially available counterparts but with a color change to Alpha Green, while other items were slightly modified with additions such as sleeve pockets. Later, many components of MARS were produced in Coyote.

Lightweight Capilene Crew (Level 1A) 
A highly breathable base-layer for cold-weather pursuits, with enough insulation power to act as a base and mid layer on milder days. Wear alone in cool weather for highly aerobic activity. Use as underwear in cold weather for aerobic activity. 19009 $30.95

Our lightest, fastest-drying weight acts as a base layer in cool weather, and affords sun protection when it heats up. Breezy cut for good ventilation. R1 Bottoms (Level 2)

Regulator System: R1 Flash Pullover (Level 2) 
The Flash Pullover is sized for next-toskin performance, yet roomy enough to accommodate a light base layer. The fabric is Polartec Power Dry (7-oz. Polyester with 2% spandex). The R.5 stretch panels are 2% spandex with Polartec Power Dry. The highly breathable, stretchy R1 fabric provides quick moisture transport and efficient insulation for chilly activities or stopand-go hikes. Strategically placed stretch panels at the wrists and hem decrease bulk. 19012 $98.95

Regulator System: R2 Jacket (Level 3) 
Warm, compressible insulation makes the R2 ideal as a layer in stormy weather or as a stand-alone jacket in more forgiving conditions. It is constructed of 6.5-oz. Polartec Thermal Pro polyester and stretch panels of 6.5-oz. R1 polyester with 2% Polartec Power Dry spandex treated with a wicking finish. Strategic placement of R1 on the sides of torso, inner elbows, forearms, and cuffs accommodates the body twists and long reaches of active users. Patagonia Slingshot Jacket - Soft Shell (Level 4) Breathable, durable and versatile, this trim-fitting soft shell is all about activities made of wind, sweat and snow. Made with 4-oz. plain weave (98% nylon, 2% spandex) with a durable water repellent (DWR) finish. 19016 $139.95


Regulator System: Guide Pants (Level 5) 
These outstanding pants are made of 6.6-oz. 50% nylon, 50% polyester stretch-woven shell bonded to a polyester knit interior with Deluge DWR finish. Inside, the polyester knit mesh adds warmth and speeds wicking. The offset front zipper won’t bunch up under a layering system, and the torso pockets actually stay open when you need to ventilate. Other features: easy gliding, water-repellent zippers; hood/hem draw cords that adjust from the inside pocket; a helmet-compatible three-way Optihull hood, and anatomically contoured Velcro™ wrist closures. 19020 $168.95

Mixmaster Pants (Level 5) 
Patagonia’s warmest soft shell pant, providing mobility, weather resistance and great breathability is made of 8-oz. Polartec Power Shield face with DWR, bonded to singlesided R1 Polartec Power Dry insulation. 4.9-oz. stretch Nylon is woven in seat and knees for durability. Insulation ends at midcalf for less bulk over boots. Rain Shadow Jacket – Lightweight Hard Shell (Level 6) 
Made of 2.7-oz., 2.5 layer, 50 denier ripstop nylon with H2No HB (Highly Breathable) barrier and Deluge DWR (durable water repellent) finish, this jacket is a super light, versatile shell providing storm-level protection that is breathable and compressible. Puffball Vest (Level 7) 
Made with 2.3-oz. Mini-ripstop polyester with DWR finish and 100- gram Thermolite. The lining is 1.7-oz. Nylon ripstop. It offers lightweight, compressible core warmth and works as a soft mid layer or wind-resistant shell. This is Patagonia’s warmest, synthetic, high-loft protection for full-on alpine conditions. Waterrepellent, windproof, snagresistant shell fabric is constructed of 1.5-oz. 30 denier high-tenacity polyester ripstop and quick dry Deluge DWR finish. R2 Regulator Fleece Jacket: This is a simple lightweight Polartec Thermal Pro Fleece jacket. It has thinner stretch panels on the sides of the torso. It is not windproof or resistant. This jacket is not as thick or warm as the Mil Issue 300 weight fleece jacket. It is lighter being better suited to a higher level of physical activity. They also pack up smaller than the issued fleece. Has to hand warmer pockets and one zippered chest pocket, and elastic cuffs. No interior pockets. A good lightweight fleece that is not too hot for vigorous outdoor activity. Retail, $139.95





Slingshot Soft Shell Jacket: This is a simple windbreaker type jacket with a tight plain weave. It has a stand up collar, high mounted hand warmer pockets, bicep mounted pockets on both sleeves, (These close with Velcro but mine seem to be a bit too far forward on the sleeve. When items are carried in them rolls forward a lot and get in the way while working.) and a DWR (Durable Water Repellant) finish that sheds wind and water somewhat. No interior pockets, no pit zips. A nice light, packable, earthy toned, windbreaker jacket. Retail, $139.95






Dimension Technical Soft Shell Jacket: This is a full featured soft shell jacket. It is a thicker “doby weave,” more robust than the Slingshot Jacket. This jacket has a hood that is frikken huge! No matter the helmet or hearing protection your wearing I bet the hood will still come down far enough to cover your eyes. Most “technical” jackets have large hoods that cover climbing helmets worn with hats. You have to use the shock corded hood take-up strings to keep the hood in its place keeping your vision clear. It has a hood roll-up strap, chest mounted hand warmer pockets, one interior pocket, extended rear hem line, and Velcro cuffs. This is a thicker warmer soft shell jacket. It’ll do a good job of keeping you warm without an insulating layer underneath or hard shell overtop. Since this is a warmer jacket a feature I miss, that I use, and have become used to on my jackets is pit zips. Retail, $249.95



Rain Shadow Hard Shell Jacket: This is a very lightweight rain jacket. Still a storm level garment with a highly breathable inner barrier and a DWR finish. The Rain Shadow is very packable with minimalist details. It has a huge helmet compatible hood and pit zips to help with thermal control. I hate to be clammy in my rain gear. Hand warmer pockets, extended rear hem line, water resistant zippers, and Velcro cuffs. All in all it’s a great lightweight packable storm proof rain jacket. Retail, $168.95


Stretch Micro Burst Pants: Lightweight packable storm proof hard shell rain pants made of the same material as the Rain Shadow Jacket. These come with removable elastic suspenders, twill crampon instep panels, one zippered thigh pocket on the right leg, and reinforced stretch panels on the seat and knees. They also have a partial elastic waist with a two way zipper and full length side leg water resistant zippers covered by a substantial storm flap. Nice lightweight packable storm proof hard shell pants. Retail, $239.95


DAS Parka: This is a heavily insulated parka. It has 6oz Polarguard 3D in the body and 4oz Polarguard 3D insulation in the sleeves. This thing is like wearing a synthetic sleeping bag with sleeve. It has a tightly water resistant, windproof, snag resistant shell with a DWR finish. It has hand warmer pockets, a chest pocket and interior pocket sized for Nalgene Bottle to keep your water from freezing. Of course it has a huge hood with adjustments. This jacket will retain some of its thermal value even when wet. (This is why all of my sleeping bags are synthetic and not down.) I depend on my gear to work wet or dry since natures a mother and I don’t make the weather calls. Elastic cuffs and drawcord waist hem. Retail, $249.95


Micro Puff Pants: Water resistant, windproof synthetic pants that compliment the DAS Parka. These are lightweight, full side zip, DWR finished pants with an elastic and Velcro waist. They have twill reinforced seat and knee patches. Insulation is 2.3oz Polarguard 3D. This is lighter than the parka which is fine for me. My legs never really seem to get cold. My trunk and torso are another story. No suspenders on these though. Kind of wish they had some. Even the minimalist elastic type would be nice. Retail, $149.95
