MODEL: LBT-2060A BACKPACK, RIFLEMAN, NSW (ST 4)
COLOR: OD GREEN BUCKLE
DATES: DEC 1998 / FEB 1999

This is a rare prototype of a back pack designed for a Naval Special Warfare (NSW) SEAL rifleman assaulter. Back in the 1990's, each specific NSW unit or team would purchase gear orders from companies on their own. They did not have a LOGSU (logistics and supply) unit as they do today to supply all the local SEAL TeamsThis is an original prototype London Bridge Trading pack. London Bridge Trading Prototype LBT-2093 Hydration / Medical Pack /1999

LBT-2093 Hydration / Medical pack made for SBU 22. Another exciting and unique prototype which I am very pleased to have. This pack is interesting, because it can be carried in three different ways. You can use the pack straps like normal, or you can unclip them from the bottom and stow them in their pouch on the back, and attach the pack to your vest via alice clips.

If you're running an H harness you can attach it via LBT-0991 quick detach kit, as they provide male buckles for that purpose, which can also be stowed when not in use. Overall there are some innovative design features on this pack.

It would've been nice to see the pack straps be fully removable, and maybe a little more low profile, in my opinion. A slight shame that the display tag was installed by putting holes in the fabric but this is a small gripe. Some smaller elastic loops on the inside would've been nice to see, like on the Eagle Recon hydration pack. The biggest downfall as far as actual usability of this pack is the lack of a pass-through in the hydration sleeve for the hydration tube. Although small issues like this are to be expected on these prototype/sample models. Buckles date this pack 1999

US Prototype MOLLE-4000 Paratroopers Rucksack

Paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division found their two options for rucksacks either too small or too big. So the Army has created a new design that’s just right. And while they were at it, Army officials were able to lighten the load and make the rucks easier to access, without having to de-rig.

In March the Army will test the MOLLE-4000, a 4,000-cubic-inch ruck. Existing options are 3,000 cubic inches or 5,000 cubic inches. The Army hopes to begin sending production orders for the new Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment by Sept. 30, with production starting soon after, according to program manager Maj. Eric Mendoza.

“We listened to the field, listened to what soldiers had to say,” said John Yancey, deputy at the Soldier Systems Branch of the Capabilities, Development & Integration Directorate at Fort Benning, Georgia. “I think we’ve got it right.”

The new rucksack represents part of a broader update to jump gear. In the last few years the Army rolled out the T-11 parachute to replace the T-10 (mainly because a better chute was needed to accommodate additional weight of soldiers and gear), and the Modular Airborne Weapons Case to replace the bulkier M1950 weapons case. Both replaced models dating to the 1950s.

The new MOLLE differs from current rucksacks in that its main compartment faces upward, which allows soldiers to access its contents, even as they prepare to jump. With a parachute on their back and reserve over their chest, jumpers have their rucksacks harnessed to their front, hanging below the waist. The current, 5,000-cubic inch airborne standard is harnessed from the bottom with the opening hanging down. This makes it difficult to remove supplies before a jump.
