History
Until 1867, the Prussian army did not regularly issue a canteen. However, soldiers used privately procured bottles Danish (from 1864) or Austrian (from 1866) types of (Glass) canteen.
German water bottle from the time of the German/French war 1870/1871, leather covered glass with viewing-slots, conical shape.
This is a rare and seldom encountered German Prussian Regulation Military Canteen, Model 1867. The inner body is constructed of glass which is well padded and leather covered. The glass has survived in very nice condition and is still wearing its cork plugged metal cap. The padded leather covering has only light wear scuffs to the finish but remains very healthy as well with its seam stitching all tightly intact.

Стеклянные фляги использовались Российской армией во время Первой мировой войны и Красной армией во время Гражданской войны. Летом и осенью 1941 года в целях экономии металла стеклянные фляги были возвращены в армейское снаряжение.
The word for canteen in Japanese is 水筒(Suito, literally Water Tube). It was described as a tube structure, because the Japanese traditionally used bamboo sections as water bottles since the Samurai days.
