Water Bottle Parka - Technical Info

In the extreme cold of Winter ski trips or high altitude mountaineering a big concern is the freezing of drinking water during the day. The two sizes of our Water Bottle Parkas will remove this concern and leave your mind free to work on other more important enigmas, such as how to get more time off for mountain trips. For outings in hot weather the Bottle Parkas are very good at insulating your cold water from the heat of the day.

Technical Features and Benefit

Two Sizes Available:
Water Bottle ParkaFits round 1 quart and 1 liter bottles
Water Bottle Parka Jr.Fits 1/2 liter round bottles and 16 ounce bike bottles.
Antron Nylon Shell Material with Hydroseal® 200 coating

The shiny Antron nylon material we use for our Hydroseal fabric is highly reflective, helping to keep things cool in direct sunlight. The silver colored parkas are the best performers in this regard, but all colors do an excellent job of reflection.

1/2" Open Cell Polyurethane Foam Insulation

Ultra-light and low conductivity.
Greater thermal resistance than Thinsulate or other fiber fills and is substantially thicker and more effective than the insulation in typical small insulators.
Strikes a perfect balance between durability and insulating capability.

#5 Zipper Closure

In the interest of thermal efficiency, the opening on the Parkas has been carefully constructed so that when zipped shut the foam in the lower section is pulled up snugly against the foam in the upper so as to prevent any convective heat flow at the zipper.

2" Wide Webbing Belt Loop

Permits the Parka to be attached to a pack hip belt or similarly convenient place.
Secured by multiple bar tacks to the main body of the Parka. Will never pull loose in your lifetime.

Notes from the field

The Water Bottle Parka has become the standard insulator in the mountains the world over. It will prevent a climber's bottle from freezing all day long in Himalayan or Alaskan cold. It will also keep juice refreshingly cool during several hours of hot weather hiking. Or keep hot chocolate warm for lunch on a ski tour. It won't make a water bottle perform as well as a vacuum bottle, but it'll perform very well indeed. If it is dropped off a cliff it won't suffer fatal damage, as a vacuum bottle will.

A very useful application for the Parka is on those days when you are stormed-in and get to sit in the tent all day. Even on the coldest days you can put hot tea in the Parka and have it ready to go even after many chapters of a Michener novel. All this at very little additional weight or bulk!

If the evening meal is being cooked and you need someplace to store that extra boiling water for awhile, look no further.

Care e Feeding

Wipe with a sponge and soapy water. Don't immerse in water.
