About Recon Mountaineer
Mack, The President, spent a lot of his time as a Recon Marine and much of that time, well spent in the mountains. Seen here carrying the 5 DOS ROC RucksackTM in desert camo in 2002, Mack engineers his own designs and performs a lot of his own research and development. Mack is originally from Colorado. He joined the Marine Corps in 1978. In the middle 80's, Mack didn't think he was being challenged enough, so he requested to test for the Elite, 2d Force Reconnaissance Company located at Camp Lejeune, NC.
That was a fantastic tour of duty for him and it goes without being said he was hooked for life on this new life style. Mack spent the rest of his Marine Corps tour at various Recon Units such as.. 1st Recon Bn., at Camp Pendleton... 3rd Recon Bn., Delta Company, Okinawa, Japan... Alpha Company, 3rd Recon Bn., Kbay, Hawaii... and at a Special Operations Training Group (SOTG) as the Director of the Raid Branch Department and the Assault Climbers Course. The men that Mack has worked with while in Recon had a drive and a sense of wanting to go further and faster than what most people would say " is humanly impossible ", the Recon community is a fantastic family. While on active duty, Mack attended all kinds of schools, traveled the planet and was enriched by the experience and his 24 years on active duty had just zipped by like a shot. During Mack's time as a jarhead, he looked at the issued equipment, more specific, the load bearing equipment and wanted to see a change. Form, fit and function came to mind. Mack started to teach himself how to sew, make patterns and design new gear. Trial and error, never giving up and listening to people needs has really made Recon Mountaineer what it is today," says Mack ".
As the years went by, making packs had become the passion for Mack. Military SPECOPS driven madmen most of all bought his designs, then Ranchers, hardcore backpackers and hunters became interested. Mack has teamed up with the best textile industry professionals and established the finest "MADE IN AMERICA" manufacturing capability available.
