A simple mug has a fascinating story to tell. All over the world, people depend on coffee for energy and stimulation. Coffee is the drink to have to be operational first thing in the morning. Whether you are an artist, engineer, lawyer, construction worker, teacher, student……and Fighting Soldier.
Indeed, here is a very interesting article about how coffee as stimulant played a very important role during the American Civil War. In 1862, at the battle of Antietam, a young 19 year old William McKinley appeared under heavy enemy fire, hauling vats of hot coffee so front line soldiers can get their cups of coffee. This act of heroism was retold several times during his presidential campaign and proved how coffee was a necessary tool in the war. Soldiers tell stories in their diaries and letters of how they relied on high dose of energizing caffeine, to stay alert, ready and strong!
