Brelage TAP 50

Bandage Pouch Type 48

1953

...

This is a : 1950s French first aid pouch (pochette à pansement II/48)

Description

Pochette pour pansements armee francaise
Below is an example of the Pansement individual (individual first aid dressing) Model type 1949

These are often referred to as a TAP (Troupes AéroPortées = Airborne troops) item, but I found one mention on a French forum that they were a TTA Piece of equipment. TTA (toutes armes/modèle général) refers to an item that is used by all arms, eg being the general model and not specifically used by one branch of service.

History note Category

For the Indochina and Algerian war periods you will often see II/48 written here. In later years you will encounter II/85, and I believe III/93 as the design and contents of the pouch was changed/modified.

From research the II/48 marking indicates the type of contents (class II) and the year (1948) that the contents were chosen/approved for use.

Version III/93 was distributed until the 2000s for any departure on OPEX. It contains various tablets, small bandages, tourniquet etc...
