History / Summary

Washington D.C. Sep.1953
Front and Rear view show the Climastat Suit developed by the Army Quartermaster Corps and based upon a new principle of Self-regulating temperature control. The Suit will be tested in arctic this winter.Unicellular polyvinyl chloride is used in two layers , each one eight inch thick for insulating material .
Each layer is perforated with numerous holes , and the two are stitched together so that the holes in one layer do not coincide with those in the other .The sponge like garments are worn beneath cotton wind-resistant , water-repellent jacket and trousers . When inactive , the wearer is kept warm by air seal surrounding his body. When Active a forced pumping action results , providing ventilation through the holes and ridding the weare's body of excessive heat and moisture.
