Haversack / Bornal
These particular items are in mint condition and came from a Portuguese Army new old stocks and were not used in the field.
These are Portuguese Army M64 yokes used in the African Wars by the Portuguese, African Guerrillas like the MPLA, FAPLA and FRELIMO in the from 1964 until the 1980's. Rhodesian and South African forces also used it for false flag operations and other special ops when trying to pass for their enemies.
The Haversack is similar in design to pattern 37 but its fastening system has been improved. The interior has dividers to better package the content subdividing up to 3 volumes.
It has two inner flaps and is closed by an outer flap that closes using two clamping straps. Some versions feature a canvas strap that can be attached or removed as needed while newer ones have nylon rivet straps. There are also terminals without any possibility of attaching a handle.
Attachment to the harness is by means of two carabiners that attach to the back loops and to the harness straps inside the canvas clips sewn into the back of the journal. Alternatively, carabiners may be used to attach the harness to the belt if used in conjunction with the backpack.
