Introduction The Survey of U.S. Army Uniforms, Weapons and Accoutrements is an expanded version of the classes on uniforms, field equipment and small arm given at the Basic Curatorial Methods Training Course held at the U.S. Army Medical Museum, Fort Sam Houston, Texas in August 2007. The purpose of this study is to provide a quick reference for the identification of the basic uniforms, accoutrements and small arms used by the American soldier from the period of the American Revolution to the operations in Iraq and Afghanistan all in one source, rather than in seven or eight different books or websites. This is not an exhaustive study, although the details become greater in the more modern periods. Also the survey concerns itself only with the most common items used by enlisted soldiers. Things like trousers, foot wear, and specialty clothing has for the most part, not been touched upon in any great detail. Certainly each chapter could be greatly expanded upon, and I for one would welcome any suggestions, corrections and especially any additional input. David Cole November 2007
