This listing is for a early 1990s vintage British DPM SASS Kit Close Observation Platoon Vest, 
Very rare piece of kit, and fore runner to the modern assault vests used by military forces (particularly special forces) world wide. 

Brief History of the COP Vest, 

During the Falklands war, an Argentinian officer was captured wearing what appeared to be either a Hunting vest or Customized Pilots Vest. During the post conflict kit evaluation, the idea of a load bearing vest was put forward and trialled by the British army. A number of COP vests were produced for special forces and intelligence gathering units, operating in Northern Ireland, where a more streamlined load bearing capacity was preferred over traditional webbing. Cop Vests also saw limited use in the 1990 gulf war and Balkans, before falling into disuse and being replaced by the modern assault vests made of more robust Nylon/Cordura.
