For sale is a rare South African summer pattern (wet season) camouflage battle jacket, issued to the 32nd Battalion light infantry unit in 1990 and used since by the reformed SANDF and the Recce commandos. This is said to have been developed in 1986 based on the Niemoller design used previously by the recces in green nylon, and was issued in 1990 with a whole array of other field equipment in the newly standardized wet season camouflage. Unfortunately, the unit had been pulled out of the Angolan conflict and out of South West Africa by that time and these ended up being destroyed; only small numbers were re-issued to the recces and new army. The LBV has numerous zippered and buckled pouches, including 3 magazine pouches for the 35-round Vector R4/Galil magazine and water canteens. Fully adjustable in height and width thanks to a series of Velcro strips and squares. Durable nylon construction. The design carries less ammunition than the Pattern 1983 battle jacket but the 32 BN were deployed mostly on long range reconnaissance and intelligence gathering patrols, with short and violent firefights and rapid egress, hence the low emphasis on ammunition count. The vest appears new and never used.
