ORIGINAL WWII TIN ALUMINIUM MESS KIT POT FINLAND FINNISH HELSINKI TALOUSTARPEITA
Item:For sale is an original WWII Finnish Army mess kit. The Finns based their mess kit and combination spoon/fork on the German WWI model, which was brought to Finland by the German-trained Finnish Jaegers. The mess kit is made from aluminum, with a steel bale handle and a steel folding handle. The top of the mess kit is marked: TALOUSTARPEITA over HELSINKI in a circle. In the middle of the circle is stamped: INT/28 . Taloustarpeita was the manufacturer, located in Helsinki, Finland. The initials INT stood for Intendentuuri; akin to the US Army's Quartermaster Corps. Finally, 28 stood for the year the mess kit was made, 1928.The spork, called a Lusikkahaarukka, is made from stainless steel, and marked Kellokoski (the maker) and INT/42 , being a manufacture date of 1942. The Lusikkahaarukka fits across the inside/top of the mess kit, for storage. Though in many WWII photos of Finnish soldiers, you can see them carrying their sporks in their shirt pockets.
