Individual dressings were initially produced for the needs of the army to enable quick treatment of wounded soldiers on the battlefield.

Individual dressings are highly absorbent products consisting of tampons connected with a fixing bandage. They are intended for dressing wounds and injuries, especially gunshot wounds. Dressings containing two tampons, including one sliding, allow you to protect the wound caused by the inlet and outlet of the bullet. Absorbent tampons are made of an absorbent layer and an outer layer in the form of cotton gauze, bleached or medical nonwoven.

In Poland, they are produced by Toruńskie Zakłady Materiałów Opatracyjnych SA (TZMO SA).

They are produced in three versions:
type W (so-called large military) - a sterile dressing in a plastic, waterproof khaki packaging. It is produced mainly for the army and OC services. The dressing consists of two tampons: solid and sliding made of non-woven fabric and an absorbent core. In addition, the outside of the sliding tampon is a green laminate that is liquid barrier. An elastic bandage is also sewn onto the tampons, also in green. One of the tampons is attached to the bandage in a permanent way, the other (barrier) has the ability to slide along the bandage, which allows you to dress gunshot wounds "through", and an added 30 cm x 30 cm foil sheet allows sealing of gunshot wounds . The dressing is rolled up and secured with a clip.

type W (so-called small) - sterile dressing in foil, waterproof khaki packaging. The dressing consists of two tampons: solid and sliding made of gauze and absorbent core. An inflexible bandage is sewn onto the tampons. One of the tampons is permanently attached to the bandage, while the other has the ability to slide along the bandage. It allows for dressing wounds, e.g. gunshot wounds. The dressing is rolled up and secured with a clip.

Small dressing - packaging (TZMO SA)

Small dressing (TZMO SA)
type A - sterile dressing in a flow-pack (coated paper from the inside of the PE), white. It is popular on the consumer market. The dressing consists of two tampons: solid and sliding made of gauze and absorbent core. An inflexible bandage is sewn onto the tampons. One of the tampons is permanently attached to the bandage, while the other has the ability to slide along the bandage. The dressing is rolled up and secured with a clip.

The field uniform of the Polish soldier (summer version) has a special pocket for carrying the individual dressing (one of the pockets inside the sweatshirt). The situation is similar in the US Army. Special pockets for personal dressings are found in ACU uniforms. For personal dressings, special pockets are produced in the MOLLE system (attached to PALS tapes), and formerly in the ALICE system .

Individual dressings are widely used in civilian: tourist and car first aid kits, because they take up little space.
