There are two versions of the haversack, the standard 1935 pattern and a later, 1937 modified pattern often referred to as the 35/37 pattern.
The Sac supérieur was designed to carry the infantrymans personal equipment, i.e. rations pack, sweater, wash kit, forage cap and ground sheet/tentage etc. In addition the two side pouches carried six magazines for the FM 24/29
