Description

There are two versions of the JFAK: With and Without Tourniquets. This version has tourniquets.

Purpose: The JFAK provides Airmen first aid capability to treat injuries sustained in the line-of-duty. The JFAK replaces the Individual First Aid Kit, NSN 6545-01-528-6546. When issued as an item of individual equipment on AF form 538 and 1297, the kit will be worn on the vertical strap of field clothing except during bail out procedures.

Marking: Markings on each kit shall include the nomenclature, NSN (for the kit and case), and the expiration date of the earliest expiring component. Special Markings include a black plus sign (+) to indicate medical kit. Tourniquet (TQ) markings include ‘TQ‘ in bold black lettering, NSN, Manufacturer, and date of manufacture/lot.





History / Summary

This is the most modern USMC IFAK case. it replaced the original case, NSN 6545-01-539-2734, during the USMC IFAK update / refresh process in the 2012-2013 timeframe.

The JFAK began being sent to installations in early 2016 Both the IFAK and JFAK may be seen in a deployment


It will replace the IFAK over time Elevates individual battlefield care to decrease Point of Injury (POI) deaths
It aligns contents with recommendations for Combatant-level care/skills
Outlined by Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care (CoTCCC)
Enhances inter-operability during Joint Service operations
Simplifies cross-service training requirements
