British Army Pattern 85 PLCE Entrenching Tool Pouch Trials

British Army Olive Green PLCE Entrenching Tool Pouch Trials Prototype

This is a scarce first pattern experimental trials version of the British Army PLCE entrenching tool pouch for the current issue trifold entrenching tool as used by many NATO armies.

These were trialled at the ITDU (Infantry Trials and Development Unit) at the School Of Infantry in Warminster.

In my opinion these are better than the type adopted, as they can be worn high or low on a belt, like the SAS drop pouches and they don't have the brittle fastex clips prone to damage.
These have early 1980s dates.

This is the early rare olive green version.
It can either hold the tool on its own or inside the rubber cover.
These are also often used to carry the water bottle (without the cup).
