Portuguese Army M64 Water Bottle Pouch II Type

This is a Portuguese army M64 later type canteen issued in Africa colonial war.
With insulated cover and aluminium cup


The cover-protected version appears to have appeared during the 1970s, it is a version in which the fastening system has been changed to carabiners, and drainage holes have also been introduced into the pouch that were used for thread or cord. that allowed to hold the canteen to the leg so as not to swing.

Another system for transporting the canteens was the carabiner-fastening strap skeleton that resembled World War II English pattern 37 canteen holders. This cheap canteen holder was used to carry only the plastic canteen and usually appears in pictures as second or third canteen which could justify its development as a cheap way to put more canteens in the correame.

The first model of the M64 canteen bag is extremely similar to the American M1956 canteens, its main difference being in the belt fastening system that instead of clips uses a hook like in the American models of World War II.

The plastic canteen and cup are virtually indistinguishable from American counterparts with the cork being attached by chain to a metallic rim attached to the mouthpiece of the canteen.

There was also a completely identical version, but it had attachment points for a handle that allowed the shoulder canteen to be used, alternatively the handle could be removed and stored under the canteen cup and the bag attached to the belt by hook.
