Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK) US Marines

Description

For many years the first aid kit carried by individual soldiers was the Carlisle Dressing or Battle Dressing, little more than a bandage with which to attempt to stop bleeding. In 2005 the U.S. Army standardized the Improved First Aid Kit (IFAK), which, in conjunction with proper training, will greatly increase force effectiveness by increasing the potential of survival for combat casualties.

Benefit Against the Threat

OVERVIEW
The Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK) provides individual Marines the ability to perform self-aid; for life threatening arterial bleeding and common non life threatening injuries. It also provides the individual Marine the capability to treat non potable water for personal consumption.

FEATURES
The IFAK integrates with Improved Load Bearing Equipment (ILBE).
The IFAK includes a trauma kit consisting of items to
stop arterial bleeding and a first kit consisting of items to treat minor injuries and purify water.
Recent improvements to the IFAK include “H” bandages and TK-4 tourniquets

This is the official issue US Marine Corps IFAK (Individual First Aid Kit).

There are two NSN's associated with this IFAK: 6545-01-539-2732 (primary) and 6545-07-000-0762 (alternate).

NOTE: As of 31 AUG 2011, the USMC IFAK is no longer shipping with Quikclot powder. Additionally, a newer and substantialy more-expensive USMC IFAK is available (if requested), which replaces the 2ea H-bandages with 2ea CAT Tourniquets. It also adds Quikclot Combat Gauze.
